Latvia residence permit for Russians

Russians can currently obtain a Latvia residence permit by registering their own company and obtaining a Blue Card. We will help you go through all this procedure with the support of our lawyers.

The Blue Card is intended to facilitate and speed up document filing. Qualified professionals and their families have the opportunity to not only enter and stay in one country, but also to work in other EU countries after a certain time.

Latvia's Blue Card offers more advantages than a regular temporary residence permit:

  • The Blue Card allows obtaining a temporary residence permit without need to apply to the State Employment Agency of Latvia (Nodarbinātības valsts aģentūra), which means there is no need to declare a vacancy to search for 10 days, but you can make a call from the employer's company immediately;

  • Right to family reunification. This allows family members to obtain a residence permit at the same time as the applicant;

  • Social and legal guarantees, for example, Blue Card holders are subject to more friendly conditions in the event of loss of employment: if the period of absence from work does not exceed 3 consecutive months, the Blue Card is not canceled and the person can receive unemployment benefits for a maximum of 3 months. Blue Card holders receive unemployment benefits for a maximum of three months.

  • Once you submit your documents to the National Health Agency, you are eligible to receive state-paid medical services and some benefits provided by the legislator.

  • After 18 months, the Blue Card holder can move to another EU country to carry out highly skilled work. If the second EU member state refuses to issue a Blue Card, the first member state is required to restore the documents without any formalities.

  • When applying for a Blue Card in another EU member state, if you have a valid Blue Card in the first country, you do not need to provide a certificate of good conduct, the rest of the package of documents is similar to the one requested by the Republic of Latvia.

  • You can also easily obtain EU permanent resident status in Latvia. To get this status, you need to stay in the EU for more than 5 years; if the Blue Card holder wishes to obtain the status of a permanent resident of the EU in Latvia, they can leave for a much longer time (12 months in a row or 18 months in total) than other persons who have received a temporary residence permit; the absence is considered justified if it is connected with the performance of business activities as an employee or self-employed person.

  • Stay in another EU country does not include the foreigner's period of “absence".
